The Illinois Municipal League (IML) is seeking a full-time, *Legislative Coordinator*.
IML was founded in 1913 and has worked continuously for the benefit of all municipal units of government throughout Illinois.
The governing board is comprised of Mayors, Village Presidents, and Town Presidents, with day-to-day administration under the authority of a chief executive officer.
*Basic Function* Provides analysis of legislative issues to members, IML staff, legislators, legislative staff and other persons involved in the legislative process; develops legislative strategies for the passage or defeat of legislation; lobbies members of the General Assembly and the Executive Branch; provides information and educates IML members and members of the General Assembly regarding the positions and philosophy of IML; and supports a strategic vision for IML outreach programs that will continue to build positive relationships with members, legislators, special interest groups and regional association.
Reports to the Legislative Affairs Director.
*Essential Functions* 1.
Analyze Legislation and Assist with Legislative Strategies and Communications: * Analyze the impact of proposed legislation and public acts.
* Prepare written legislative proposals as original content or modified content.
* · Lobby Legislators and Administration officials through direct contact, building coalitions, educating staff, testifying in committees and preparing supporting documents and materials.
* Communicate with IML membership and audiences through written content for various publications, social media and by speaking to large and small groups.

Coordinate IML Committees and Meetings: * Attend and prepare meeting materials for IML committees as assigned.
* Work with state agency contacts and interest groups as needed on various topics.
* Research and present information on legislation and policies that impact municipalities.
3.
Coordinate and Assist Certain Conference and Training Functions: * Assist in arranging Annual Conference breakout sessions and training events.
* Help in coordinating conference programs, seminars and workshops.
*Qualifications* * Bachelor’s degree required.
* Knowledge of the functional operation of state and federal government, especially the Congress, General Assembly, Governor’s Office and state and federal agencies.
* Minimum of two years of experience in government relations or a related field.
* Teamwork and communication skills and ability to coordinate projects with others.
* Ability to analyze legislation, communicate effectively with IML members and members of the General Assembly, and develop relationships with all professional contacts.
* Ability to testify effectively in hearings before the General Assembly.
* Ability for quick thinking that results in sound decisions.
* Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including after normal hours of business.
* Must not be prohibited from being a registered lobbyist in the State of Illinois.
*Working Conditions* * Sitting, bending, lifting up to 20 pounds, standing for long periods, driving IML vehicles.
* Occasional overnight travel for attendance at meetings, conferences and training events.
*Salary and Benefits* IML is a professional workplace and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Starting salary $76,000-$85,000 DOQ.
