A writer at Illinois College will strengthen our brand and advance the vision through storytelling across multiple channels to a multigenerational constituency.
From short form to long, this position authors a variety of communications including the website, magazine, press releases, direct mail, and digital marketing.
This position collaborates with a dynamic and creative Marketing and Communication team to meet the College’s strategic tenets of supporting student success, expanding visibility and ensuring sustainable foundations.

Serve as chief copywriter and editor for the College adapting style and voice as appropriate to the audience and platform with an eye toward producing integrated, cross-platform content in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team and other campus constituencies such as Admission and Advancement.
Proactively seek out, develop and write stories of interest to expand the College’s visibility with a particular eye toward advancing enrollment growth and fundraising goals.
Coordinate major internal and external publications serving as primary contributor.
This includes acting as managing editor of the Illinois College Quarterly Magazine and producing various institutional newsletters Oversee press releases and feature articles for placement in print, broadcast, online and social media pages, ensuring alignment with the College’s brand, mission and strategic vision.
Serve as the College’s primary liaison to the news media.
Collaborate with the external relations team to differentiate the College in a crowded market by identifying and highlighting what makes IC special, including features on students, faculty, and donors.
Interface with multiple departments across campus including The Office of the President, Admission, Advancement and Alumni Engagement and the Office of the Provost.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required.
2-3 years of experience as a professional marketing copy or feature writer.
Intercultural competency; ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Proven high-level writing skills, including exceptional interviewing and editing skills, with the ability to provide a comprehensive portfolio of previous work.
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others.
Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Confidential materials must be handled with utmost discretion.
Ability to complete projects in a timely and accurate manner while working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
