Posting Identification Number 37417 POSITION SUMMARY The Department of Central Management Services (CMS) is seeking to hire an Accountant for the Accounting Operations Section under the CMS Comptroller.
Under general supervision, this position will independently perform technical accounting assignments.
This position prepares, maintains, analyzes, and reconciles complex account books in the billing and receivable systems including, but not limited to, Systems Application Products (SAP).
The ideal candidate will be able to prepare daily, monthly, and yearly reports as well as post cash receipts and maintain, review, and distribute subsidiary records.
The ideal candidate will process and review all checks, money orders and cash collected, respond to billing inquiries, and provide fiscal assistance as needed to other Accounts Receivable staff.
The ideal candidate will be able to travel to perform these duties.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under general supervision, performs professional accounting work related to the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of revenue ledgers, financial records, statements, and reports for agency funds for the Department of Central Management Services (CMS).
Maintains and examines complex systems used for accounts receivable information by the various funds and accounts.
Reconciles the Treasurer’s drafts reflecting the daily deposits.
Reviews accounts receivable aging reports and examines accounts receivable data to identify receivables exceeding past due thresholds.
Examines and prepares financial records, statements, summary reports, and ledgers using complex accounts receivable systems to provide accounts receivable information to the agencies, Office of Finance & Management, and Comptroller for analysis purposes.
Serves as accounting liaison with agencies to ensure the accuracy of the billings being produced.
Performs development, testing, and implementation of enhancements to existing and new systems.
Provides fiscal accounts receivable assistance as needed to other accounts receivable staff.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Prefers two (2) years’ professional experience with governmental accounting.
Prefers a working knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) for financial reporting.
Prefers two (2) years’ professional experience with word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, and database software applications.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position requires the applicant to pass a background check.
Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
