PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1.
Conducts assessment/evaluation of student abilities and needs; attends and serves
as a member of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team to determine eligibility of
students for program; assists in the development of IEP instructional
goals/objectives; assists in identifying other related services for the student;
reassesses/evaluates student progress and submits reports in a timely manner to
coincide with IEP review meetings.
2.
Establishes instructional/learning environment for students to reinforce appropriate
behavior and to provide academic instruction using a variety of instructional
methods.
3.
Maintains cooperative working relationships with parents, member district staff,
SASED staff and community service agencies.

School Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Administrator, Director of Special Education or Designee
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Implement all district and SASED policies and procedures as they relate to the
Classroom.
2.
Demonstrate an understanding of the screening, referral case study, annual review
and conference processes and complete components as designated.
3.
Administer speech language screenings as needed.
4.
Obtain parent permission as designated for all diagnostic and therapeutic services to
be performed.
5.
Refer to the RtI team and or administer diagnostic evaluations to students who are
identified as needing interventions.
6.
Prepare and submit for approval a referral for additional special education services
when necessary.
7.
Timely prepares, implements, and evaluates IEPs (including Transition Plans and
Behavior Management Plans) for each assigned student based on individually
assessed needs, in accordance with SASED procedures.
8.
Provide speech language services to all eligible students, ages 3-21.
9.
Provide therapy for students who are eligible for speech language services in a
manner compatible with the highest standards and designed to enhance each child’s
communicative competence.
10.
Provide and maintain a classroom environment which facilitates learning.
11.
Demonstrate the ability to use technology globally.
12.
Effectively instruct each student in learning new skills and acquiring knowledge.
13.
Evaluate student levels and progress on an ongoing basis.
14.
Provide consultation to the general education classroom teachers, other special
education teachers or paraprofessionals.
15.
Monitor performance of students in the general education classrooms or other
special educations classrooms as appropriate.
16.
Promote affective development by addressing students’ physical, social and
emotional needs.
17.
Demonstrate the ability to maintain classroom discipline through effective individual
and group behavior management techniques.
18.
Seek assistance from the Principal, Assistant Principal or Special Education
Administrator as necessary for student behavioral problems.
19.
Maintain accurate records for each child (i.
e.
IEPs, parent contacts, progress reports,
assessment data).
20.
Requisition and maintain instructional materials and supplies and inventories as
required.
21.
Attend faculty meetings and trainings as required.
22.
Participate in required and individual professional growth activities as required.
23.
Participate in Medicaid Administrative Outreach and Fee-for service activities.
24.
Perform such other duties and additional responsibilities as assigned.
