The University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a one-year Visiting Associate Professor or Visiting Professor position within the School of Management and Public Policy beginning August 2024.
Qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate (PhD, DPA or related by the time of appointment) in public administration, public policy, political science, or a related field.
Teaching responsibilities include core courses and elective courses within the MPA, MPP, and DPA programs.
Preference will be given to applicants who can offer courses in public budgeting and finance, public management and statistics.
Applicants should have a solid record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service.
Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications.
As all faculty teach some courses in our online MPA and MPP programs, experience in online teaching is desirable.
This is a full-time on-campus visiting position and benefit-eligible non-tenured academic appointment.
UIS faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the campus community to perform professional responsibilities as assigned.
The School of Public Management and Policy, which is housed in the College of Public Affairs and Education, offers a NASPAA-accredited MPA program with roughly 200 students (on-campus and online), plays a significant role in teaching and serving on dissertation committees in the university's only doctoral program (a DPA program), and offers an undergraduate program in public administration.
The School is committed to diversity and the preparation of students to address diversity in the workforce and seeks to continue its growth by prioritizing four primary areas of teaching and research: 1) Public Finance and Procurement, 2) Public Sector Human Resource Management and Labor Relations, 3) Social Equity and Impact, and 4) Data Analytics.
Duties & Responsibilities: Teaching: Teaching responsibilities include core courses within the MPA, MPP, and DPA programs and elective courses.
Preference will be given to applicants that can offer courses in Budget and Finance, Economics and Statistics.
Teaching load is 4 courses per semester.
Service: We anticipate the successful hire will have the reputation, stature, and record of exceptional service activities sufficient to promote the school through engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including service on boards and committees.
Minimum Qualifications: An earned doctorate (PhD, DPA or related degree by the time of appointment in January 2024) in public administration, public policy, political science, or a related field.
7 to 10 years of experience in higher education or nonprofit management or related field with a demonstrated history of excellence in teaching and professional service.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who can offer courses in public budgeting and finance, public management and statistics.
