POSTED DATE:September 26, 2023 CLOSING DATE:Open Until Filled Reporting to the Director, performs duties associated within the department and in collaboration with other related Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) departments, oversees implementation of the Illinois Learning Standards for science, educator professional development related to the science learning standards, and the administration of multiple state and federal grant/contract programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Works with department staff, cross-functionally, and with grantees in support of state and federal grant administration to ensure program effectiveness and compliance.
Provides leadership, science expertise, and guidance in support of the implementation of learning standards.
Supports ISBE and other educational agencies as it pertains to establishment, development, and review of science materials, resources, assessments, and instructional support services.
Serves as agency science liaison in support of the Illinois Learning Standards for science.
Works to integrate science standards across disciplines and with the support of the culturally responsive teaching and leading standards.
Continually reviews and upgrades the strategic plan for science rigor and provides leadership in science curriculum, assessment, and resources.
Provides technical assistance and guidance for alignment of local curricula and assessment to the science standards for learning and across other programmatic initiatives such as competency-based education and Science, Technology, Engineering, (Arts), and Mathematics (STEM/STEAM) initiatives.
Develops and writes requests for funding proposals administered by ISBE.
Collaborates with ISBE staff.
Prepares and reviews grant reports.
Communicates with grantees, performs technical assistance and monitoring visits.
Supports department functions.
Develops, organizes, directs, and participates in professional development, workshops, conferences, and committees in support of the Illinois Learning Standards for science, department initiatives, the State Plan, and the Agency mission, vision, goals.
Effectively communicates internally and externally on behalf of the Agency.
Facilitates and collects data, data analysis and evaluation.
Provides assistance on data driven continuous improvement strategies.
Collaboratively reviews policies, procedures, rules, and legislation to ensure program compliance and improve overall effectiveness of programming in order to improve outcomes for students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Education or a science-related field, or, a Bachelor's degree in Education or a science-related field plus two years of teaching experience.
(COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) Must currently hold or have held in the last five calendar years an educator license that includes the authority to teach science coursework.
(IF FROM A STATE OTHER THAN ILLINOIS, DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) Two years of teaching experience (in addition to education requirements) in K-12 schools and/or administrative experience at the K-12 level.
Experience with the Illinois Learning Standards for science.
Experience working with committees of practicing educators to produce resources, assessments, curriculum and/or instructional materials.
Experience with professional development.
Knowledge and understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards for science.
Understanding of research based instructional practices and data driven performance.
Ability to effectively communicate both in written communication and verbally.
Ability to work collaboratively, and set and meet timelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Grant management and/or budget experience.
