Overview:
The nurse manager operates in accordance with the mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of the hospital.
The nurse manager assumes 24-hour accountability for the management and patient care on a designated unit(s).
Assures that care provided is appropriate to the age of the patients serviced on his/her assigned unit and that staff competency requirements include age-specific components.
The nurse manager creates and maintains a work environment conducive to effective communication, collaboration, team building and professionalism.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Licensed as RN in the State of Illinois required.
Specialty certification desired.
Experience:
At least three years of experience in nursing with demonstrated leadership/management skills required.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
Must be able to position and/or transfer an average adult patient and possess gross coordination sufficient to perform other patient care duties as required.
Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing.
Must be able to perform difficult manipulative skills such as IV insertion and IM injections.
Environmental working conditions include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, contagious diseases and/or radioactive or other potentially hazardous materials.

Ensures departmental operations support the organization’s missions, goals and objectives.
Develops and communicates policies, standards and quality improvement for nursing care services appropriate for the population served.
Participates in fiscal planning decisions that affect nursing care.
Participates in the evaluation, selection, and integration of clinical and support service technology to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of network resources.
Promotes staff retention and facilitates staff participation in developing unit and employee goals, and supports process to fulfill and evaluate them.
Identifies and is accountable for the resolution of problems as related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.
Maintains operation, which adheres to and supports applicable employment laws and regulations such as wage and hour, equal employment, sexual harassment and other such issues.
Exercises accuracy and completeness relative to third party payor activity; such as coding and billing, and assures the same in areas that are contracted to vendors (where applicable).
Promotes an environment and holds staff accountable to provide a great patient experience.
Actively participates in competency assessment process.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
