The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services’ (OSPS or Office) mission is to assist in the administration of justice and promote community safety by ensuring fairness and equality in the pretrial process.
The OSPS is a statewide office that provides pretrial services under the Pretrial Services Act, 725 ILCS 185.
The Office develops pretrial standards and employs pretrial service officers who conduct pretrial investigations and provide pretrial supervision.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES*: The Pretrial Training Chief oversees the design and delivery of pretrial training to the Office of Statewide Pretrial Services (OSPS) as well as county based pretrial programs.
The Training Chief oversees a team of trainers and works independently under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Performance Management.
*FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:*
* Develops and oversees a robust training program for pretrial programs across the state, including establishing pretrial training objectives.
* Directs and oversees the development of pretrial curricula, training manuals, handouts and study materials.
* Evaluates organizational performance to identify training deficiencies and prepares short-term and long-term training plans to achieve desired training levels.
* Serves as a supervisor by providing instructions, setting expectations, observing performance, providing feedback through ongoing and annual performance evaluations, participating in the hiring process, and recommending corrective or disciplinary action when necessary.
* Oversees training of OSPS Staff on internal policies and procedures.
* Develops pretrial training for external stakeholders playing a key role in the delivery of pretrial services, such as public defenders, state’s attorneys, judges, administrative court staff and law enforcement officials.
* Serves as subject matter expert on pretrial services and on training methods, developments, and best practices.
* Assists, supports and serves as OSPS representative to pretrial services-related committees and workgroups.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:*
Minimum Qualifications:
1.
A Bachelor’s Degree.
2.
Seven or more years professional working experience in a public or private organization.
3.
Two or more years of supervisory experience, or three or more years’ experience in community corrections or justice system in Illinois.
4.
One or more years of experience as a facilitator conducting training or education.
5.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.
e.
, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
6.
A valid Illinois driver’s license and demonstrate proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
1.
A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, social science, or a social service-related field.
2.
Five or more years of experience in the field of education, training, or program development.
3.
Five or more years of supervisory experience.
4.
Five or more years’ experience in community corrections or justice system in Illinois.
5.
A Master’s degree.

Ability to sit for extended time periods.
2.
Professional office working environment requiring telephone usage and ability to process written documents.
3.
Ability to travel, mostly within Illinois, including overnight stays, as required.
