*Position Description: *The Facilities and Exhibits Technician is responsible for the successful, innovative, and high-quality exhibit and building experience that reflects our values and ensures the ongoing maintenance to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of our visitors.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician works with senior management to identify strategic goals and develop a long-term exhibit plan.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician is responsible for the management of new exhibit projects, care and maintenance of existing exhibits.
Scope of responsibility includes supervision of external professional services contractors as needed.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician ensures that all exhibit components and environments are safe, in good working order, well cared for and repaired in a safe, timely, and aesthetically functional way.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician responds to daily cleaning and maintenance needs of exhibits and the museum grounds.
This is a physically active role that requires a combination of technical expertise in woodworking, painting, electro-mechanical systems, metalwork, artistry, and general fabrication.
Good communication, problem solving, multitasking, judgment, patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor are essential in this role.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician supports building operations, assist with scheduling maintenance of technical contractors, and works closely with all administrative departments to address satisfaction issues and personify a cohesive organizational voice.
The key objectives for this position are to provide a well-designed, quality exhibit experience, ensuring that exhibits are consistently functional, engaging, safe, and welcoming at all times for guests of all abilities.
Due to our size, this position only requires an average of 5 hours per week but may increase due to museum need, such as for exhibit creation and in preparation for special events and the summer season.
The Facilities and Exhibit Technician’s schedule is flexible, within reason, to accommodate other places of employment.

* *Responsibilities:* *Facilities* * Performs preventative maintenance and addresses necessary repairs in a timely manner * With the Visitor Engagement Coordinator’s assistance, train operations staff to perform necessary building and exhibit upkeep, maintenance and quality assurance, and to be prepared for facilities emergencies * Serve as initial point of contact for security alarm company * Upkeep of interior and exterior condition of building * Responsible for performance and compliance with all local, state, OSHA requirements, inspections and regulations related to the facility * Reviews stock inventory of spare parts, equipment and materials *Exhibits* * Repairs and updates existing exhibits * Create new exhibits with the assistance of the Executive and Assistant Directors * Assists in the execution of an annual exhibit maintenance program to sustain optimum exhibit experience and continuous refurbishment of exhibits and components * Assists with the coordination all exhibit related technical or content deliverables with various departments as required * Assist with all traveling exhibit projects, developing plans, equipment and staffing needs for traveling exhibit installs/dismantle * Proactively identify needed exhibit improvements and work collaboratively to determine best ways to address and implement *Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:* * 5+ years experience in museum exhibits, facilities, theater or entertainment venues, and/or commercial construction.
Prior experience in children’s or science museums a plus.
* 3+ years of experience in woodworking and carpentry * 2+ years of experience in electro-mechanical systems and metalwork a plus * Possess a good working knowledge and skills of all systems on the site including HVAC, security, fire, electrical, plumbing, groundskeeping, exterior and interior maintenance of the structures, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry * Proficient in carpentry * Knowledgeable in building, construction and fabrication language, terms, materials, and techniques * Knowledgeable in the use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment * Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with staff, visitors, volunteers and community partners * Advocate for equity, inclusion and diversity including non-English speakers and individuals with physical challenges or special needs * Possesses aesthetic, design, and creative skills * Excellent time management skills; ability to manage a variety of responsibilities under pressure Hiring is contingent on the completion of a successful criminal background check.
